U.S. Capitol at Night 1922

This unique picture of the Capitol at Washington was taken from the steps of the Library of Congress. It was during the Disarmament Peace Conference when the Capitol was flooded with two-billion candle-power searchlights screened with color prisms.  The varied color effects threw a halo over the majestic, sombre, white dome, not unlike the aurora borealis.  A shaft of light piercing the blue-black sky between the ever-changing prisms seems to speak a prophecy of hope fulfilled. The moment was fortuitously caught by the artist, Mr. Buckingham.

Yates Chili 1909

The young pin-curled model is stiffly posed for her first bite of Yates Chili, the Webb City, Missouri, local brand.  Mother dressed the model in her finest starched party dress, just for the photograph.  Could she be trying to figure out how to get that bite of chili into her mouth without spilling on her dress?  Especially if Mom is behind the camera watching every move! Great advertising photo.
