Professional  Photograph of a Colored Only Juke Joint located in Belle Glade, Florida. The image was captured in 1940 by famous Farm Security Administration photographer Marion Wolcott.  This was part of a series of photographs taken by the government program to document life in rural America during and after the Great Depression.

Joe Louis Fights In Manila

Joe Louis, born in Alabama, moved to Detroit when he was twelve. With a friend's encourgagement, Louis used his weekly fifty cents for violin lessons to rent a locker at Brewsters Gym, where he developed an athlete's physique and a competitor's instinct. Coming off a strong showing in the 1934 Golden Gloves final, he attracted a manager & trainer who thought he could be a World  Champion Boxer. The rest is history.

Our Gang Comedy Team in 1930's
Poor neighborhood children known as Our Gang or The Little Rascals starred in the comedy series from 1922-1944. Created by Hal Roach, the situations depicted children behaving in a relatively normal way. The series put boys, girls, whites & blacks together in a group as equals which broke new ground for the time. The show discovered child stars whose names are still recognized today including Buckwheat, Farina, Spanky, Wheezer & Chubby.
